Ian A. Cook, M.D., is
Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and a Research Scientist at the
Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior. Since joining the UCLA full-time faculty,
he has served as Attending Physician on inpatient, outpatient, consultation-liaison, and partial hospital
services in Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry divisions at the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital. He is
Board Certified in Psychiatry by the ABPN.
Dr. Cook has received NIH and industry grants for clinical and translational research in depression, and has
been recognized for his contributions in this area with awards from NARSAD, NIMH/NCDEU, and WCCBP.
He has been honored by the Department of Psychiatry with three Outstanding Teaching Awards, and directs
the Institute's Grand Rounds course and its Online CME Programs.
He serves as a member of the Executive Committee on Practice Guidelines of the American
Psychiatric Association, and is Communications Chair as well as a Fellow of the West Coast College of Biological Psychiatry.
Objectives:
- To review the relationship between pain and depression in patients
who have medical illnesses
- To examine the diagnosis and management of comorbid pain and
depression in the medically-ill
